Crazy Week For Asians! (KCON, CRAZY RICH ASIANS, TO ALL THE BOYS)

What a time to be alive! From the incredible weekend we spent at KCON LA 2018, to seeing films Crazy Rich Asians and To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, the representation that has been occurring for us Asians has been overwhelming (and that’s an understatement!) First off, our time at KCON LA 2018 was something that we will never forget. We were never necessarily exposed to the world of “K-Culture” other than listening to 1 or 2 songs from BTS and using a Korean face mask after a long day under the sun. After attending KCON, we saw that it was so much more. An entire convention center sectioned off into booths – Food, Make-Up, Travel Information and of course: all things KPOP! Some of KPOP’s favorites were in attendance all weekend to meet and greet their ultimate fans and perform for 2 nights at the world-known Staples Center. Acts like Momoland, Twice, Wanna One, IN2IT, Golden Child, and Seventeen graced the halls and stages of the convention center over the 3-day weekend celebration to make appearances and be up close and personal with the fans during their performances on the Toyota stages. What amazed us the most were truly the fans. The love and dedication they have for their idols was definitely translated all throughout the weekend. There was a section in the convention called the “Dance Workshop” and there you will find fans of all kinds of groups dancing IN SYNC to every song that was played. If that doesn’t explain the unity in the KPOP world, then we don’t know what is! We got the chance to see the talent perform at the Staples Center and it blew our mind to the point where we have now converted to being KPOP lovers. (Really, we haven’t stopped listening to What Is Love since last weekend!) Check out our coverage of KCON LA 2018 down below – we had the greatest time, and we hope to go back again next year! After a whirlwind of a weekend at KCON, we were graced by the premiere of Crazy Rich Asians mid-week. Now, if you didn’t already know, this film is composed of an Asian ensemble of talents! A story line that pulls the Asian culture out of it’s hiding to show that we too can be showcased on the big screen with a worldwide platform. A beautiful romantic story mixed in with comedy, history and a whole lot of incredible fashion! Crazy Rich Asians is opening doors for us and we couldn’t be more ready. If you have not seen the movie yet, you’re missing out! This leads us to another film currently streaming on Netflix, titled To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before. This one got us in the feels. Not only did it bring us back to our high school days but it also brought back a nostalgic 80’s rom-com vibe that we haven’t seen since….the 80’s. Starring Lana Condor, this talented actress does an effortless job of bringing her character to life. We’re going to watch this one a few more times and a few more times after that. The Asian community has been roaring this past week and it’s truly just the beginning….
