“Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” Sequel Confirmed With Destin Daniel Cretton To Direct

Marked as the number 1 movie of 2021, “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” has been greenlighted by Disney to return with a sequel! The film’s director, Destin Daniel Cretton, signed an exclusive multiyear overall deal with Marvel Studios and Hulu’s Onyx Collective that will allow him to develop TV projects for Disney+ as well as Hulu and other Onyx platforms. With this, comes the opportunity to continue the story of Shang-Chi with a sequel and in regards to an ongoing relationship between Marvel and Destin Daniel Cretton, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said this: “Destin is an amazing collaborator who brought a unique perspective and skill to ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.’ We had a fantastic time working together on the film and he has so many intriguing ideas for stories to bring to life on Disney+, so we’re thrilled to expand our relationship with him and can’t wait to get started.” Earlier this year, “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” – starring Simu Liu, Awkwafina, Tony Leung, Meng’er Zhang and Michelle Yeoh – was the first Disney film during the COVID-19 pandemic to be released only in theaters, launching at $90 million across North American cinemas alone and almost $300 million worldwide.
