Hollywood’s biggest and brightest gathered on March 1 for the 32nd Annual Actor Awards, formerly called the Screen Actors Guild Awards, celebrating the best in film and television performance. Among the standout stories of the night was a proud moment for Filipino-American talent as several performers helped carry their projects to big wins on the global stage.
One of the evening’s biggest successes came with Isa Briones, Kristin Villanueva, and Amielynn Abellera, three Filipina-American actresses who helped anchor the ensemble cast of the hit medical drama, The Pitt. Their collective performance contributed to the series taking home Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series, a win that resonated deeply with fans and the Fil-Am community alike as a symbol of rising representation on Hollywood screens.
Villanueva, in particular, reflected on the milestone after years of building her career, noting how meaningful it was to celebrate a story that honors Filipino nurses and caregivers, characters rooted in empathy and strength. Her reflections highlighted both personal pride and the wider cultural impact of seeing Filipino-American talent recognized on such a major awards stage.
Across the film categories, Ryan Coogler’s acclaimed vampire epic Sinners dominated! A standout for representation was Hailee Steinfeld and Yao, who were part of the ensemble cast that took home Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture, highlighting their powerful and layered performances captured on screen.
The recognition for The Pitt and Sinners adds to a night filled with notable wins, but the spotlight on Filipino-American artists stood out as an especially uplifting chapter in this year’s awards narrative.
Congratulations to all!
