The Manila International Film Festival (MIFF) is bringing Philippine cinema back to the heart of Hollywood, announcing the first 14 titles for its third annual edition, happening Sept. 3–6 in Los Angeles.

Leading the lineup is an advance screening of DreamWorks Animation’s Forgotten Island, an animated adventure inspired by Philippine folklore. The film features Liza Soberano as the voice of Raissa and Tony Award winner Lea Salonga as The Dreaded Manananggal, alongside H.E.R., Dave Franco, Jenny Slate, Manny Jacinto, Dolly de Leon, Jo Koy and Ronny Chieng. Forgotten Island arrives in theaters Sept. 25.

The festival will also feature several major premieres, including the world premieres of Eddie Romero Remastered: A Century of Filipino Cinema and Kappa-Tiran, as well as the Hollywood premiere of Jerrold Tarog’s Quezon, starring Jericho Rosales as Manuel L. Quezon. Other highlights include Raymond Red’s Manila’s Finest, Benito Bautista’s The Road to Sydney, the animated documentary 58th, and a newly remastered presentation of The Black Eyed Peas’ “Bebot: Generation One” music video, marking its 20th anniversary.

MIFF will also honor Salonga with its MIFF Icon Award during the Sept. 6 Closing Night Awards Gala at The Beverly Hilton. The festival will screen two films from her career, Sana Maulit Muli and The Vale: Origins.

With screenings, filmmaker Q&As and industry panels taking place at the TCL Chinese Theatre, this year’s MIFF promises a wide-ranging celebration of Filipino filmmaking and the Filipino diaspora on the global stage.
